Touch Screen Test

Check dead zones, multi-touch and swipe trails right in your browser

Rub your finger slowly over every part of the screen. Each of the 48 cells (a 6×8 grid) lights up when it registers a touch, so a cell that stays dark — or a spot where your line keeps breaking — points to a dead zone. Your swipe path is drawn as a line.

Tip: put several fingers down at once to see how many touches your screen tracks together (multi-touch). The count can top out early because the device, OS and browser each set a limit, and system gestures such as a three-finger screenshot may grab the touch first.

Rub your finger over a 48-cell grid: each cell lights up when it registers a touch, so dark cells or a line that keeps breaking point to a dead zone. Put several fingers down to see the most touches your screen tracks at once. Runs free in the browser on phones, tablets and touch laptops.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q. How do I check my touchscreen for dead zones?

    A. Slowly rub your finger over the whole screen. The test area is split into 48 cells (6×8) that light up when touched; a cell that stays dark, or a spot where your drawn line keeps breaking, suggests a dead zone.

  • Q. How many touch points does my screen support?

    A. Put several fingers down at once and read the “Max at once” number. It shows the most touches the browser received together, which can be lower than the spec sheet because the OS and browser also set limits.

  • Q. Does it measure touch pressure or sampling rate?

    A. No. Browsers don't expose a reliable touch sampling rate, and most phones don't report real pressure, so this test only checks where touches register, how many at once and the path you draw.

  • Q. Can I use it on a PC without a touchscreen?

    A. You can click and drag with a mouse or trackpad to try the grid and lines, but simultaneous touches stop at 1. Checking multi-touch needs a touchscreen.
