Gomoku Online
Play Gomoku (Five in a Row) with a friend via invite link, or take on an AI from 9 kyu to 9 dan.
How to Play
- Create a room and share the invite link with a friend.
- Black moves first, then you alternate. The host plays Black in the first game, and colors swap with every rematch.
- Connect five in a row — horizontally, vertically or diagonally — before your opponent. You get 15 seconds per move.
Renju Rules (Forbidden Moves)
Black Restrictions
- Double Three (3×3): Cannot place where two open threes are formed simultaneously.
- Double Four (4×4): Cannot place where two fours are formed simultaneously.
- Overline: Cannot place 6 or more stones in a row.
Forbidden positions are blocked. A message will explain why when attempted.
Core Rules
- Four-Three (4×3) is allowed: Forming a four and an open three simultaneously is OK.
- White is free: White has no restrictions — 3×3, 4×4, and overlines are all allowed.
- Win condition: Black needs exactly five in a row; White also wins with six or more.

Gomoku — also called Five in a Row — is played on a 15×15 board. Black moves first, the players alternate, and the first to connect five stones horizontally, vertically or diagonally wins. The rules fit in one sentence, but reading a few moves ahead is where the real game lies.
This version uses Renju rules to offset Black's first-move advantage. Black may not play a double three (3×3), a double four (4×4) or an overline of six or more, and only an exact five counts as a win for Black. A four-three (4×3) is allowed. White has no restrictions and also wins with six or more in a row. If you click a forbidden point, the move is blocked and a message tells you which rule applies.
To play a friend, create a room and send the invite link or room code; the other person joins from a browser with nothing to install. Random Match drops you into a room that is already waiting. The host plays Black in the first game, colors swap on every rematch, extra visitors can watch as spectators, and each move has a 15-second clock — running out of time loses the game.
Playing solo? The AI has 18 levels, from 9 kyu for beginners up to 9 dan. You play Black against it, and your best win is saved as a record to beat.
