Your photos never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.

Passport Photo Maker is a free online tool that turns an everyday photo into a correctly sized passport or ID photo, right in your browser. Drop in a JPG, PNG, HEIC or WebP file (or paste it with Ctrl+V), pick a size, and download a single photo or a 4×6 print sheet. Nothing is uploaded to a server and there is no sign-up.

In English the US passport size is preselected: 2×2 inches (51×51 mm), with a head height of 25–35 mm (1 to 1⅜ in) from the top of the hair to the chin. The list holds 22 presets, including the 35×45 mm size used in Korea, Japan, Taiwan and much of Europe, China's 33×48 mm, Turkey's 50×60 mm biometric photo and Saudi Arabia's 40×60 mm. For any other country, enter a custom size from 10 to 200 mm and the head is set to 70–80% of the photo height. A few presets are marked as reference sizes because the official source could not be confirmed.

Tap Auto-fit my face and on-device face detection (MediaPipe) finds your face, scales the head to the middle of the allowed range and levels your eyes. The first run downloads a recognition engine of about 12 MB. After that you can drag to reposition, zoom from 50% to 200% and rotate up to ±10°. Dotted guides for the crown line, chin range, center line and face oval appear only in the preview and are never saved into the file.

Save one photo as JPG or PNG for online forms, or a 4×6 inch (10×15 cm) print sheet as a 1800×1200 JPG with light grey cut lines. Photos are rendered at 300 dpi, so a 35×45 mm photo comes out at 413×531 px. Background replacement offers white, light grey, sky blue, blue, red or a color you pick, which is handy for résumés and student IDs. Passport offices often reject digitally edited photos, so shoot passport photos against a plain white wall. Most offices also want a photo taken within the last 6 months with a neutral expression, so always check the latest rules of the office you submit to.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q. What size is a US passport photo?

    A. A US passport photo is 2×2 inches (51×51 mm), with the head measuring 1 to 1⅜ inches (25–35 mm) from the top of the hair to the bottom of the chin, on a white background. This preset is selected by default in English, and the dotted guides show where the crown and chin should sit.

  • Q. How do I print passport photos on a 4×6 sheet?

    A. Download the 4×6 print sheet: it saves a 1800×1200 px JPG (4×6 in, 10×15 cm) with several copies of your photo (six 2×2 in photos or eight 35×45 mm photos) and light grey cut lines. Order it as a regular 4×6 print at a photo kiosk or online print service, then cut along the lines.

  • Q. Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

    A. No. Cropping, face detection and background replacement all run inside your browser, so the photo never leaves your device. The only download is a face recognition engine of about 12 MB the first time you use Auto-fit my face.

  • Q. Can I change the photo background to white?

    A. Yes. Background replacement separates you from the background and fills it with white, light grey, sky blue, blue, red or a custom color. Many passport offices reject digitally edited photos, so for a passport it is safer to shoot against a plain white wall and use the background tool for résumés, student IDs and similar.

  • Q. Can I make passport photos for other countries?

    A. Yes. The 22 presets cover Korea, the US, Japan, China, Taiwan, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Russia, Indonesia, Brazil, Vietnam, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, and you can enter any custom size from 10 to 200 mm. Requirements change, so confirm the current size with the issuing authority before you print.
