Make a color palette from an image in seconds: drop in a photo and this free tool picks out its 5, 6, 8 or 10 main colors, shows how much of the picture each one covers in %, and gives the HEX, RGB and HSL codes. Everything runs in your browser, so the photo is never uploaded. It works with JPG, PNG, HEIC and WebP, and you can choose a file, drag it in or paste it with Ctrl+V.
Need the color of just one spot? Use it as an image color picker: tap or click any spot on the photo and the tool reads that point, averaging a 3×3 pixel area so a single stray pixel doesn't skew the result. The picked color gets the same HEX, RGB and HSL readout, and a click on any code copies it. You can also copy every HEX code in the palette at once, handy for extracting colors from a logo or a screenshot.
Most online pickers stop at a hex code. Here each color is also matched to the closest of the 52 named colors in the Color codes dictionary, so you see whether that blue sits nearer to navy or teal, with a link to that color's page for related shades. The share in % tells you which color dominates and which is only an accent, which helps when you turn a photo into a palette for a website, slide deck or mood board.
How are the colors chosen? The photo is scaled down to 200 pixels on its long side, similar pixels are grouped with a variation of the median cut method, and each group's average becomes one palette color. When you're done, save the palette as a 1200×630 PNG with color bands, HEX codes and percentages, ready to share or drop into a design file.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How do I extract a color palette from an image?
A. Drop a photo onto this page, pick 5, 6, 8 or 10 colors, and the palette appears instantly with each color's share in % and its HEX, RGB and HSL codes. Click any code to copy it, or copy all HEX codes at once. JPG, PNG, HEIC and WebP files are supported.
Q. Is my photo uploaded to a server?
A. No. The image is read and analyzed entirely inside your browser, and nothing is sent to a server. Even a screenshot pasted with Ctrl+V never leaves your device.
Q. How can I find the color code of one spot in a picture?
A. Tap or click that spot on the photo. The tool averages a 3×3 pixel area around the point and shows its HEX, RGB and HSL codes plus the nearest named color, so you get a stable reading even on compressed images.
Q. What does the percentage next to each color mean?
A. It's the share of the picture that belongs to that color group. The photo is reduced to 200 px on its long side, similar pixels are clustered with a median cut variant, and each cluster's size becomes its %. A high number marks the dominant color, a low one an accent. Transparent pixels, such as the background of a PNG logo, are left out, so the % covers only the visible part.
Q. Can I save the palette as an image?
A. Yes. Save it as a 1200×630 PNG showing each color band with its HEX code and percentage. The size fits social share cards and slides, and you can also copy all HEX codes as text.
