Fill in any two of distance, finish time and pace, and this running pace calculator works out the third. Pick a 5K, 10K, half marathon (21.0975 km) or marathon (42.195 km) preset, type a goal time and you get the pace per kilometer you need to hold, plus the same pace per mile and your average speed in km/h.
It works the other way too: enter the pace you can sustain and see your projected finish time, or enter a time and pace to see how far that takes you. A split table lists your cumulative time at every kilometer, which is handy for pacing long runs or writing splits on a wristband.
The math assumes an even pace from start to finish, so treat the numbers as a plan rather than a promise — hills, wind and the day itself will move them.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How do I calculate my running pace?
A. Divide your time by your distance. For example, 10 km in 50:00 is a 5:00/km pace, which is 8:03 per mile or 12 km/h. Enter any two of distance, time and pace and the calculator does it for you.
Q. What pace do I need for a sub-4-hour marathon?
A. About 5:41 per kilometer, or 9:09 per mile, held evenly for all 42.195 km. A 2-hour half marathon needs the same 5:41/km pace.
Q. How are miles converted?
A. One mile is 1.609344 km, so the mile pace is the kilometer pace multiplied by 1.609344. In kilometer mode the per-mile pace appears in the results too, and switching the unit to miles lets you enter distance and pace per mile directly, with speed in mph.
Q. What happens if I fill in all three boxes?
A. The box you changed longest ago is treated as the unknown and recalculated from the other two, and it is dimmed so you can tell.
