Stop the Stopwatch

Stop the stopwatch at exactly the target second (1–5s) — chase the 0ms Perfect.

How to play

  • Press START or Space to get this round's target: a random whole second from 1 to 5.
  • Tap the timer or press Space to start it, then tap again, press Space or hit STOP to stop it.
  • Going even 1 ms past the target is a Miss. Stopping early: exactly 0 ms = Perfect, up to 30 ms = Great, up to 100 ms = Good, up to 1 s = Close, more than 1 s = Miss.
  • Retry keeps the same target; close and press START for a new one. Only Perfects build your streak, and your smallest error goes on the leaderboard.

Stop the Stopwatch is a quick timing game: freeze a running stopwatch exactly on a target second. Press START and the round's target appears, a random whole second from 1 to 5 such as 3.000. Tap the timer or press Space to start it yourself, then tap again, press Space or hit STOP to freeze it. The clock counts in plain view down to the millisecond, so the skill is anticipating the moment, not reacting to it.

Scoring is strict on one side. Go even 1 ms past the target and it's a Miss. Stop early and you're graded by how early: exactly 0 ms is Perfect, up to 30 ms Great, up to 100 ms Good, up to 1 second Close, anything earlier a Miss. If you never stop, the round ends as a Miss one second after the target. Retry keeps the same target so you can drill it; close the game and press START for a new one.

Your streak only grows with back-to-back Perfects, and the leaderboard ranks your smallest error in milliseconds (Misses don't count). The stop time is read from the browser's high-resolution clock when your input arrives, but a 60 Hz screen only redraws every 16.7 ms and touchscreens, keyboards and monitors add their own delay, so a 0 ms Perfect always takes some luck. Share your result card, or send a challenge link with your best error and see who gets closer.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q. What happens if I stop after the target?

    A. It's a Miss, even if you're only 1 ms over. Only stops at or before the target are graded and ranked, so aiming a hair early is the safer play.

  • Q. How are the grades decided?

    A. By how early you stop: exactly 0 ms is Perfect, 1–30 ms Great, 31–100 ms Good, up to 1 second Close, and anything earlier a Miss.

  • Q. Is a 0 ms Perfect actually possible?

    A. Yes, but you have to hit the exact millisecond. A 60 Hz screen redraws only every 16.7 ms and every input device adds some delay, so even good players land Perfects partly by luck.

  • Q. What does the leaderboard rank?

    A. Your smallest error in milliseconds from a stop that wasn’t a Miss; lower is better. Your Perfect streak is kept separately on your own device.
