What is a weton?
A weton is the day where the 7-day week meets the 5-day pasaran cycle (Legi, Pahing, Pon, Wage, Kliwon) of the traditional Javanese calendar in Indonesia. Because the two cycles interlock, the same weton comes back every 35 days. Many Javanese families still mark birthday wetons and consult them when choosing wedding or moving dates. Each weekday and pasaran carries a number called neptu, and adding them up is the basis for personality and compatibility readings.
Weton and compatibility readings introduce a traditional Javanese counting method for fun and reference only. They do not represent any religious view and do not predict or decide the outcome of a relationship or marriage.

Weton is the meeting point of two cycles in the Javanese calendar: the familiar seven-day week and the five-day pasaran week of Legi, Pahing, Pon, Wage and Kliwon. Because the two cycles interlock, the same weton comes around every 35 days, and many Javanese families in Indonesia still mark a person’s birth weton and consult it when choosing a wedding date or a day to move house. The Giggleus weton calculator turns any date of birth into its weton, such as Jumat Kliwon or Senin Pahing, in a second.
Each weekday and pasaran carries a number called neptu: Sunday 5, Monday 4, Tuesday 3, Wednesday 7, Thursday 8, Friday 6 and Saturday 9; Legi 5, Pahing 9, Pon 7, Wage 4 and Kliwon 8. Your neptu is the two added together, so it always falls between 7 and 18. Add a partner’s birth date and the calculator works out weton jodoh, the traditional compatibility reading: both neptu are summed and divided by 9, and the remainder points to one of eight categories — Pegat, Ratu, Jodoh, Topo, Tinari, Padu, Sujanan or Pesthi. The full neptu table and the total-to-category table are shown on the page.
In Javanese tradition the day changes at sunset, so if you were born after maghrib (dusk), enter the next day’s date. Primbon books don’t all agree — some divide by 8 instead — so this page uses one widely used table, and other sources may give a different result. It’s free with no sign-up, doesn’t represent any religious view, and readings are for fun and reference only — a “Pegat” result is a gentle nudge to keep talking, not a verdict on any relationship.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is a Javanese weton?
A. It is the combination of your day of the week and the pasaran day (Legi, Pahing, Pon, Wage or Kliwon) in the Javanese five-day cycle. Someone born on a Friday that fell on Kliwon has the weton Jumat Kliwon. The same combination repeats every 35 days.
Q. How is neptu calculated?
A. Add the day value (Sunday 5, Monday 4, Tuesday 3, Wednesday 7, Thursday 8, Friday 6, Saturday 9) to the pasaran value (Legi 5, Pahing 9, Pon 7, Wage 4, Kliwon 8). Jumat Kliwon, for example, is 6 + 8 = 14.
Q. How does weton jodoh compatibility work?
A. Add both people’s neptu, divide by 9 and look at the remainder: 1 or 0 Pegat, 2 Ratu, 3 Jodoh, 4 Topo, 5 Tinari, 6 Padu, 7 Sujanan, 8 Pesthi. A total of 22 leaves 4, so it is Topo. This follows one widely used primbon table; others divide by 8 and can give a different result. For fun and reference only.
Q. What if I was born in the evening?
A. The Javanese day starts at sunset, so if you were born after maghrib, use the next calendar day to find your weton.
