Brick Breaker

Bounce the ball and clear every brick.

How to Play

  • Move the paddle with ←/→ or A/D, the mouse, or by dragging your finger. Esc pauses; Space resumes.
  • You start with 3 lives. You only lose one when every ball on screen has dropped past the paddle.
  • Clear all 35 bricks to reach the next stage. Each brick is worth 10 points, and the ball gets faster while the paddle gets shorter as stages go up.
  • Red bricks take two hits. Gold bricks drop an item when they break.
  • Catch items with the paddle: 📏 double-width paddle (30 s), ⚾ two extra balls, ❤️ extra life (up to 5), 🚀 piercing ball (10 s).

Brick Breaker is the bounce-and-smash arcade game: a paddle at the bottom, a wall of bricks at the top and one ball you have to keep in play. The genre goes back to Atari's Breakout (1976), and Taito's Arkanoid (1986) made power-up capsules part of it. Giggleus Brick Breaker is an independent, free browser take on that idea, not affiliated with either company, and it runs on desktop and mobile without an install.

Move the paddle with the ←/→ arrow keys or A/D, with the mouse, or by dragging a finger. The ball launches by itself, and where it lands on the paddle sets the rebound angle: the outer edges send it off at the sharpest angles. Esc pauses and Space resumes.

Every stage is a wall of 35 bricks (7 columns × 5 rows) in a random mix. Blue bricks break in one hit, red bricks take two, and gold bricks drop one of four items: a double-width paddle for 30 seconds, two extra balls, an extra life (up to 5) or a piercing ball that tears straight through bricks for 10 seconds. Each brick is worth 10 points and there is no stage-clear bonus, so your score comes from bricks alone.

You start with 3 lives and lose one only when every ball on screen has fallen. Stages never run out, but the ball speeds up until stage 10 and the paddle shrinks until stage 8. Once the ball slips above the wall, through the gap at the sides or a hole you have opened, it rattles between the ceiling and the bricks and clears several on its own, which is why opening an edge column early pays off. Your score goes to the ranking, and a challenge link lets friends try to beat it.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q. How do you move the paddle in Brick Breaker?

    A. Use the ←/→ arrow keys or A/D, move the mouse, or drag your finger on a phone. Where the ball hits the paddle sets its angle, and the edges give the sharpest bounce.

  • Q. How many lives do you get?

    A. You start with 3 lives and can hold up to 5 by catching heart items. A life is lost only when every ball on screen has fallen, and the game ends when your lives run out.

  • Q. What do the power-ups do?

    A. Gold bricks drop one of four items: a double-width paddle for 30 seconds, two extra balls, an extra life, or a piercing ball that breaks every brick it touches for 10 seconds.

  • Q. How is the score calculated?

    A. Every brick you break is worth 10 points, including red bricks that need two hits. There is no stage-clear bonus, and the ball gets faster as you reach higher stages.
