The Left Brain vs Right Brain Test borrows the popular idea that “left-brained” people are logical and “right-brained” people are intuitive, and uses 20 everyday questions to show which way your thinking habits lean — just for fun. Do lyrics or melody hit you first? Do you give directions in blocks or by landmarks? Do you read the manual or start pressing buttons? Pick one of two answers for each question. It’s free, needs no sign-up and takes about three minutes.

Each answer adds a point to the left or right side, and the result shows your split as a percentage in 5% steps. If one side reaches 75% or more, you get The Logic Architect or The Imaginative Creator; 55–70% gives The Practical Realist or The Intuitive Dreamer; an exact 50:50 split is The Perfect 50/50. Comparing results with friends or family makes an easy icebreaker.

One honest caveat: some brain functions really are lateralized — language, for example, relies mostly on the left hemisphere — but “left-brained” and “right-brained” personality types are a myth. A 2013 University of Utah study (Nielsen et al.) analyzed brain scans of more than 1,000 people and found no evidence that individuals use one hemisphere more than the other overall. Treat this as a playful look at your habits, not a brain test.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q. How does the left brain vs right brain test work?

    A. You answer 20 everyday questions by picking one of two options. Each choice adds a point to the left or right side, and the result shows your split as a percentage. It takes about three minutes.

  • Q. How many result types are there?

    A. Five. If one side reaches 75% or more you get a strong left or right type, 55–70% gives a leaning type, and an exact 50:50 split gives the balanced type.

  • Q. Is the left-brain/right-brain personality theory scientific?

    A. No. Some functions, like language, rely more on one hemisphere, but a 2013 University of Utah study of more than 1,000 brain scans found no evidence that people use one side more overall. This test is for fun.

  • Q. Is the test free?

    A. Yes. It’s free, needs no sign-up, and you can share your result with friends.
