Type Rain is a falling-words typing game: English words drop from the top of the screen, and you shoot each one down by typing it before it reaches the bottom. Type a word's first letter to lock on — if several words start with that letter, the lowest one is picked — then finish it letter by letter while your jet fires a missile with every correct key. A wrong key only buzzes and costs nothing, but you can't switch targets mid-word, and the run ends the moment any single word touches the bottom.
The pool holds 400 English words in four tiers, from three-letter words like "cat" to twelve-letter ones like "architecture". The first ten words are mostly short; as your count climbs, longer words take over, everything falls faster and the gap between waves shrinks from 3 seconds to half a second. On a computer each wave drops two or three words. On a phone you tap an on-screen QWERTY keyboard, words arrive one per wave and the speed ramps up more gently. Each word is worth 10 points plus a bonus that grows with its falling speed.
The WPM counter shows words destroyed per minute. That's a handy pace gauge for a run, but it isn't the standardized WPM of a typing test, which counts every five characters as one word — use the Typing Speed Test for that. Your best score goes on the global leaderboard, and a challenge link lets a friend see the number to beat. If you normally type with a Korean, Japanese or Chinese IME, switch to English input first: the game only takes the letters a–z.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How do you play Type Rain?
A. Type the first letter of a falling word to lock onto it, then type the rest before it reaches the bottom. Each correct key fires a missile, and the last letter destroys the word.
Q. When does the game end?
A. As soon as any single word touches the bottom — there are no extra lives. Wrong keys cost nothing, so it pays to clear the lowest words first.
Q. Is the WPM in Type Rain the same as typing-test WPM?
A. No. It counts words destroyed per minute, and the words run from 3 to 12 letters. Standard WPM treats every 5 characters as one word, which is what the Typing Speed Test measures.
Q. Can I play Type Rain on my phone?
A. Yes. An on-screen QWERTY keyboard appears, words fall one per wave, and the difficulty climbs more slowly than with a physical keyboard.
